Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is a value that is truly motivating. I consider self-awareness to be aware of our own thoughts and understand how they can affect you and others. Self-awareness is an ongoing process that requires commitment. It is a value people should understand in the early stages of life to experience life in full. This value exemplifies who I am as a person because I am considered to be a very open-minded person. I enjoy listening and learning about people and their experiences to how they are shaped today. Life has a lot of adventures and I want to be able to explore and create memories. At this age, I know what I want to do in life, and I am extremely encouraged to achieve those personal goals. By being self-aware, I have the ability to build ethical relationships with others. I consider myself to be an active listener which is important for acknowledging similarities and differences in others. In nursing, it allows for the nurse to become ethically aware because they are open to different perspectives of clients and to try and understand their reasoning for decisions. Developing self-awareness is essential to interacting with and providing client-centered care to a diverse population in nursing. I have been able to demonstrate self-awareness throughout all my placements so far like Long-term care, community and maternity. Self-awareness helps build me as a person and as a future nurse.
